“Black Panties” The Series: A Conversation With The Creators

 Spring has finally sprung!

With the changing of seasons, it’s no secret that there are new shows to look out for. This spring will be no different as Black Panties hits the web, and into your homes.

“Black Panties is a story about how vulnerability and womanhood collide.  Mahogany, Valerie, London, and Juice; four friends in the concrete jungle of New York City, experience love, betrayal, mental illness, and the magic of womanhood through a woman’s intuition. Black Panties the journey of friendship, sensuality, and truth.

Black Panties was created by a plus size woman and majority of the cast and crew are also plus size as well. Our purpose is to give exposure to plus size women in the media industry.”

These tales of unapologetically black women are set to captivate you in ways that you haven’t experienced yet. Necessary stories will be told, minds will be opened, and you’ll have a damn good time through it all.

Casting director, Candace Thompson, describes the series to capture women’s hearts simply because of the content it provides. “It’s funny and something that women can relate to. The scenarios are honest and it portrays real life. They’ll feel great seeing situations that represent them,” she explained.

Mark your calendars for the season premiere hitting your screens May 7 as well as their Black Out Weekend taking over Brooklyn May 5-7.

Until then, check out my conversation with the creator Francina Smith and her director’s crew on the following page; and look out for our second interview with the cast dropping April 27.
