Dr. Nadia Lopez is more than just a principal running a junior high school in Brownsville Brooklyn, New York. She is a mother, daughter, friend, fighter, and recently published author.
Throughout her life’s work, switching careers from nursing to education, Dr. Lopez has and continues to stay rooted in her faith – while also believing in the power of writing things down. First, it started with a composition notebook filled with her goals. Then, a laminated magazine page with “The Lopez Effect” – her eventual hashtag – boldly written. Now, her vision has been captured on vision boards and recently a vision book.
Last night, BrooklynButtah’s Alley Oliver hosted a book signing at Therapy Wine Bar where the focus of the conversation centered around building vision. On a vision board in 2012, Dr. Lopez wrote that she would write a book, and here we are four years later with The Bridge to Brilliance.
She reminded those in attendance that things do not happen overnight. Simply because you’ve created a vision board does not mean all things fall into place within 24 hours.
In fact, her initial proposal to open a school was rejected and where many would be upset Dr. Lopez took that as an opportunity to get more hands on experience as an assistant principal until the time was right.
