These days, photos undoubtedly run the world. From selfies to DJ Khaled-esque nature shots, anyone with a smartphone is capturing the moment.
However, videographer and photographer Jeff Stashbox is doing more than just taking high quality images. In his photo series campaign, Us Cozy Girls, Jeff is putting the beauty of women on display – minus the traditional standards of photographed beauty we’ve become accustomed to.
“Women have this way of just wanting to show off their beauty without having to appeal to this ideology of being an IG honey,” the 25-year-old explained. “I think that is something I’ve been able to accomplish shoot by shoot, people got this misconception that cozy is like a tomboy or whatever but it’s not.”
Who knew athletic leisure way could be seen as something so sexy on a woman? Drake’s infamous line of ” Sweatpants, hair tied, chillin’ with no makeup on/That’s when you’re the prettiest I hope that you don’t take it wrong,” is taken to the next level in the photo series.
An opportunity to celebrate black and brown women in a campaign focused less on their clothes but more on their facial expression, the strength in their stance, being unapologetically female and black – Jeff is providing an alternate story to the black female experience.
We spoke with the Brooklyn native about the series and what he hopes to accomplish, check it out in the following pages and follow his Instagram for more beautiful images.
